6 Instagram Marketing Strategies for Small Businesses

[ad_1]

5 min read

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

Instagram has been a major player in the social media world for some time now. More than 65 million monthly active users, 10 billion photos and one of the most iconic logos out there make it an essential marketing platform for small businesses — if they know how to use it.

As the photo-sharing platform continues to grow, so does its influence on its users buying habits. With that in mind, you can use Instagram not just as a place for sharing photos, but also for getting new customers.

To help you succeed on Instagram as a small business owner, we’ve gathered the best tactics and advice from successful SMBs. Here are seven tried and true ways to use the social network as a marketing tool.

1. Create engaging emoji captions

Capitalizing on emojis is an effective way to engage your followers. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and hashtags are funny and slightly different. Try using them together for extra creativity.

Emojis are especially effective on Instagram, as they can be used to add personality to your messages. You can use the same emoji for different occasions, or mix up the colors and style of the message every time you post something new.

Related: 15 Ways to Optimize Your Instagram

2. Be original

No one can resist the lure of original content when they view your captions on Instagram. There are thousands of similar posts to yours, which means that you need to stand out from the rest.

Make sure you have a unique angle or perspective that your followers will appreciate. You do not want to be seen as a person who simply shares what’s going on in their lives without adding value or makes any effort whatsoever. With unlimited Instagram followers, it’s easy for people to find a particular user they like. But if you want your post to be noticed, step out of the crowd and create something memorable for them.

3. Use hashtags wisely

When you use hashtags on Instagram, be sure to see how they perform before doing so. It’s a good idea to do a search for your own specific hashtag and see what happens when you include it in your posts.

While there is no guarantee that your hashtag will get noticed, there are a number of factors that go into how well it performs. There are certain hashtags that people use all of the time, while others tend to perform better when they are used occasionally.

The best performing hashtags are around eight to ten characters in length, and you should make sure your hashtags are easy for people to read. You should also use a combination of hashtags, and not focus on just one or two.

4. Go beyond Instagram

If you want to get more Instagram followers, be sure that you take advantage of the other opportunities available to you. For example, you can try promoting your account through Facebook ads or on Twitter. These sites allow their users to advertise their pages or products, so consider taking advantage of this feature if it fits in with your goals for growth.

5. Post regularly

It’s always good to post regularly, but you want to make sure what you post is engaging. This is an opportunity to showcase your brand personality and connect with followers on a more personal level, so don’t waste it by posting bad content! Many brands are using Instagram stories as another way of keeping their content fresh. They do this by creating short clips that are easy for viewers to consume, and act as an extension of the account in a way that matches their brand image. This is definitely something worth trying out!

6. Attractive Instagram feed

If you have a well-designed Instagram feed, then it makes sense for the profiles to match too. These will be the first images new followers see, so make sure they are interesting and enticing enough to make people want to continue to explore your feed. If you’re using a mobile device, then this is particularly important, as you only have a small area in which to catch their attention.

While many people already know this, there are still some businesses out there that don’t: Instagram is now an algorithm-based feed. That means that it doesn’t follow the chronological order of posts. This is a huge change for those who used it primarily as a content curation tool and suddenly found they had zero visibility when their posts were not directly engaging or being actively liked.

Take advantage of the algorithm by adjusting your posting times and finding out which time slots are best for you. While there’s no magic formula for this, you can base it on the following:

  • What kind of content do you post? Usually lighter, more digestible content is best early, while images that are bolder or more graphic-heavy are better later in the day.
  • How much time do you spend on your account? If you spend less than an hour a day on it, then consider the early hours of the morning. The reason for this is that more people are online during those hours, so posts from this time are among the first they see.
  • Where do you live? Some markets are very different when it comes to the amount of time people use their smartphones in those locations.

Time your posts accordingly to avoid any disappointment and to ensure that your content is getting the visibility it deserves.

Instagram insists on competing with TikTok and will now prioritize video over photos

“We are no longer a photo sharing app,” said Adam Mosseri, director of Instagram, announcing that the app needs changes and will focus more on videos to compete with the popularity of TikTok.

Since the boom it experienced in 2021, the short video app TikTok has become the rival to beat for other platforms. Proof of this is that many social networks have integrated the same format under the name Shorts (YouTube) , Fleets (Twitter) or Reels , in the case of Instagram . The latter, said its director, will implement new changes to give priority to the video over the photos and to remain in force.

In a video published on Wednesday, Adam Mosseri , director of Instagram , announced that the platform is getting ready to pivot and take a turn towards short videos, a format that is mainly conquering younger users.

“People go to Instagram to entertain themselves, there is tough competition and there are things to do,” said the manager. “We have to accept that, and that means change .”

Mosseri explained that the Facebook- owned app plans to test new strategies, such as recommending full-screen videos to users in their feeds, even from accounts they don’t follow.

“We’re also going to experiment with embracing video more broadly – full-screen video, immersive, entertaining, for mobile devices,” he explained. “You will see us do a number of things or experiment with various things in this space over the next few months .”

And to clarify the position of the company, Mosseri finished with a sentence that sounds like a sentence: We are no longer a photo-sharing application or an application to share square photos .”

The news comes after Instagram employees hinted a few days ago that the platform could add a new form of monetization through ‘Exclusive Stories’ . These would be stories only available to subscribers of a creator without the possibility of taking screenshots.

With So Many Distractions, What Deserves Your Attention? — Charisma Magazine

[ad_1]

Sitting in the ballpark, watching another of my husband’s games, a new wife sat next to me. We introduced ourselves and began with the simple pleasantries that usually transpired. Who are you with (player, coach, name, position)? Where do you live in the off-season?

As we talked, the new wife’s phone would ding the latest alert. She picked it up to check the notification while I kept talking. The distraction was frustrating. But then I began to do the same thing. I was just as easily distracted by the latest alert.

Every day, we scroll social media, listen to a podcast, binge on endless television shows and movies. We have many options of what to pay attention to daily. Do you feel you have too many options to make wise decisions?

We live in a multiple-choice culture. There are so many options. If we don’t like the one choice we choose, we can change our answer to our interests.

Distractions are everywhere. Our phones ding with the latest text. The number of notifications at the top right corner of the Instagram logo catches our eye. The doorbell app shows when someone approaches. The running score of our favorite sport alerts us.

Dozens of distractions are fighting for our attention every single day. Most of us feel we can barely keep our heads above water as we flit from one interruption to another.

In Proverbs, we see that wisdom deserves our attention. How do we hear the call of wisdom over all the other chaos that swirls around us?

Facebook and Instagram Debut Financial Incentives for Influencers

[ad_1]

Photo: AFP / Stringer (Getty Images)

If you thought the deal couldn’t possibly get sweeter for the influencers that flock to Facebook and Instagram to simultaneously bolster their social media followings and line their pockets, think again: On Tuesday, both platforms announced that they’ll be stepping up their respective games in the coming weeks by rolling out a suite of additional financial incentives aimed at keeping the creator class logged on and streaming.

During Instagram’s first Creator Week event, Mark Zuckerberg — the CEO of Facebook, which owns Instagram — debuted new features that will help influencers rack up “extra cash” in exchange for hitting certain milestones. According to Engadget, examples of goals that will translate to extra cash include selling badges within streams or going live with other accounts on Instagram and participating in “Stars Challenges,” on Facebook, which will reward creators for meeting certain streaming milestones and completing other predetermined tasks.

“We believe that you should be rewarded for the value that you bring to your fans and to the overall community,” Zuckerberg told creators during the event.

In addition to the new milestones, Instagram will also be rolling out an option for creators who sell their own products to link to them in-app, with additional options to earn commission directly from shopping posts.

The cash incentives seem explicitly designed to keep influencers, well influencing, which, in addition to lining creators’ pockets, serves the dual purpose of attracting more users to Instagram and Facebook.

Notably, the bonuses also seem to be explicitly targeted towards mid-range creators, rather than content behemoths with massive online followings. This seems to be in line with Zuckerberg’s recently stated goal of establishing a sort of “creator middle class” — the subset of influencers that, despite having substantial platforms, are not yet big or influence-y enough to merit sponsorship offers from big-name brands.

21 Easy And Cool Chocolate Ideas

21 EASY AND COOL CHOCOLATE IDEAS

COOL CHOCOLATE IDEAS

You can decorate almost any dessert with chocolate. Decorating Cakes with Chocolate is quick, easy and all you need is chocolate chips, a sheet of parchment paper and something to pipe it with; either a ziploc bag, or if you have one, you can use a frosting baggy with a pointy tip (to be completely un-technical). The recipe for the cake photographed above is posted here. Now imagine how pretty this would look over an espresso creme brûlée; Eh, eh?!

Ingredients/ tools for Decorating Cakes with Chocolate:
1/2 to 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (this also works great for white chocolate decorations)
1 sheet of parchment paper
1 frosting bag
Pointy tip or a ziplock bag

Decorating Cakes with Chocolate:

1. Place a sheet of parchment paper on your counter (the least expensive parchment paper is at Costco).

2. Melt 1/2 cup or chocolate chips in the microwave or stovetop (more if you are doing a larger project). Don’t overheat it and check by stirring because the chocolate chips hold their form even if they are hot. If you overheat it, they will crumble and get dry.

3. Transfer your melted chocolate to your piping bag. If it’s a ziploc bag, cut a tiny hole by snipping the very corner of the bag; you can always make the hole bigger but you can’t make it smaller.

4. Pipe your design onto your parchment paper. For more detailed designs, one of my readers suggested that you can print your design on computer paper, then place your parchment paper over the printer paper and trace over it. If you mess up a few times; don’t worry about it; it’s not like you’re piping it onto your cake.

5. Put a cutting board under your parchment paper and transfer it to your freezer for 5 minutes or until chocolate hardens.

6. Now carefully peel it off the paper and transfer it to your cake. It’s easiest to transfer it while it’s still very cold from the freezer (less chances of your 3D chocolate breaking during assembly).

Gosh it’s so easy. It’s too easy! You can also write out chocolate letters so you don’t destroy your cake if your “Happy Birthday” is uglier than you imagined it would be (been there) or if your flower ends up looking like a creature (done that).

If you try this and share a picture on Instagram or Facebook, do let me know. I’d love to see your creative designs!

25 Funny Situations You'Ve Definitely Been In || Expectation Vs Reality

25 FUNNY SITUATIONS YOU'VE DEFINITELY BEEN IN || EXPECTATION VS REALITY

REAL LIFE: EXPECTATION VS. REALITY

Awkward moments follow us everywhere! Sometimes we think that we look gorgeous but the reality you see in the mirror is frightening as your hairstyle is awful and your makeup is a real fail. When you are going to work out you think you look stunning in new leggings and a crop top, you made a perfect ponytail and is ready to break hearts in a gym. In reality, after 15 minutes of hard work you are totally wet and exhausted. Fail! You spent a whole hour on cooking a crust pie and it should be perfect! In reality, you were speaking on the phone with your friend and forgot about a pie. The result is that you have burnt pie crust. Do you want to change your hairstyle? You have found an amazing hairstyle on a picture but the actual result is awful. Everyone has this awkward moment when you realize that your new hairstyle is a catastrophe.
Have you ever thought that the real life of your friends differs from real life? Most Instagram photos look perfect: everybody is smiling, have a perfect body, have a lot of fun at parties and have the happiest life. In real life perfect photos that girls make depend on the right pose, makeup, and light. A lot of people pretend that they spend hours in the gym and eat only healthy food and post photos of smoothies and low-fat food. But in reality, you can meet these people in McDonald’s. Same story with workouts. A lot of people pretend to have a very interesting life full of parties and different activities and hobbies. In reality, most of them spend time at home watching a TV show.
